How do I identify a hydraulic fitting thread?
Check four things - the thread form angle, whether it's parallel or tapered, the diameter, and the threads per inch - then match them against a chart. Our thread identification guide walks through it step by step.
Are BSP and NPT interchangeable?
No. They use different thread forms (55° vs 60°) and won't seal together, even though some sizes will start to thread. See BSP vs NPT for the detail.
What's the difference between a male and female adaptor?
A male adaptor has external threads; a female has internal threads. You pair a male with a female of the same thread type and size.
What does a swivel adaptor do?
A swivel end rotates, so you can tighten the connection without twisting the hose or spinning the whole fitting - handy where components can't rotate.
Can you adapt between two different thread types?
Yes - that's exactly what many adaptors do (for example BSP to JIC). Identify both threads, then choose an adaptor with the matching ends.
